Problem started possibly 2-3 days ago. Can not access my "Mail" on my 2018, MacBook Pro, 13" running "Big Sur" vrs. 11.4.
I have to keep "Force Quitting" and sending messages to report the problem. The color wheel keeps appearing anytime I highlight the "Mail" icon.

Once the mail app is force closed, try holding shift and then clicking the Mail app to open it.
Delete the account you're having problems with and then re-add it.

I deleted the account and I did not even have to re-add it because there was apparently a second account already active.
