As others have asked without (I think) a good answer, how can the lock key on key board be disabled? This is on the "cheap" version, just the key.
It's right above the delete key, and I've hit it several times while editing ... it's very annoying.
I don't want to remove a password, &c. I just want that key not to work (or only work on double tap or long tap or something).
I hope I don't have to take a screw driver to it.

I didn't find the key either justbe622 . However, when I run the Karabinger app and choose the keyboard, the "lock" key gets disabled. This is sufficient for me. It gets enabled again when I quit the Karabinger app.

Good idea! I just put a piece of blue painters tape over mine and it’s been holding now for a few weeks, pretty stupid idea they should have it where you have to hold it down for at least one or two full seconds instead of just touch it
I have no experience of this app but it may enable you to re-map the key.
You'll have to navigate through some security settings in Preferences first and go through setup so it recognizes your Keyboard as a US Standard one. Then you can do the Simple Modifications adjustments
There is a way to fix it in the App. Use the “Simple modifications” tab, then on “from key” add item, “Lock Key on Magic Keyboard without Touch ID”. Under “To Key” you can change it to Backspace/Delete or whatever you want. Once set up it will work even without the app open

Totally unhelpful, as it misunderstood the question, which is about the LOCK KEY, as stated in op. It's easy to hit by mistake, going for the delete key.
On another thread about this, someone suggested using feedback, which I did — we'll see.
Hello apple expert, since you didnt seem to know what the keyboard looks like, here's the image. The lock key is located on the top, extreme right, next to F12 key and above the delete key. Are you able to help us find a way to disable this key without physically damaging it? You cld add an option to disable this on System preferences, keyboard, modifier keys.
You can tape it down permanently or take a small wedge, maybe toothpick and wedge the key down. either way, if the key is down it won't operate or affect operation...
I'm honestly thankful for the advice of tapping it down. Worked like a charm! 🤣. It's really an annoying feature that can't be adjusted in settings. I WISH that it was placed on the left hand side where the ESC key is instead.
Tried once, but there's the on-off switch too. And, a few times this afternoon, it suddenly locked, as if the taped-down key still engaged.
One piece of tape diagonally, over a small square of cardboard, to help hold down the key. Added another small bit of tape to keep it down.
Oh, well.
I couldn't imagine what you guys were talking about till I saw this image that mahaloki posted. I use an Apple USB extended keyboard that I've had since 2010, but it has no lock key. I'm using it with a relatively new (2017) i-Mac. Just hunted down the Magic Keyboard that came with the i-Mac and sure enough, it has a lock key. Who'da thunk it ?
I tried the tape. But despite sticking it really well, same as the other persons said, it kept locking me out of my keyboard. The idea of an app that runs continually and then needs to be signed back into when it is logged out of doesn't sound appealing. Tomorrow - glue!
