screen goes black randomly

i just bought a second hand phone from a cellular repair shop and it has been working great except for the fact that the screen randomly goes black but the phone is still on. I click the side button and can hear it turn on and off but I can’t see the screen after a few minutes the screen will turn on again. Can anyone help? I have the Iphone XSMax . Anyone having similar problems?
