Stopped - ‘Filter’ failed, message using Epson Stylus TX550W (Epson 83E80F (wireless))

I have been getting the message "Stopped - ‘Filter’ failed" while using the Preview app on a MacBook Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015) running macOS Mojave version 10.14.6. It is NOT the printer as I can print successfully using other programs printer utilities. It is ONLY when using the Apple Preview utility that I have a problem. Have just tested again and this time I don't get the "Stopped - ‘Filter’ failed" error, BUT the printer queue clears but nothing prints.


This happened a few weeks ago and was able to get it working again by reloading the OS from backup, and it continued to work until today. As this took a very long time I am reluctant to resort to the same method.


Is there any other method to "repair" Preview without reloading the OS (Can I reinstall Preview only - if so where do I get a clean copy.

Hello,


Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.


Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.


To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...


Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.


Does it work in the new account?
