Mac Book Pro Hot spot auto connect

Hello, on my mac book pro (16") with Big Sur 11.5.2 installed. I can connect to my iphone 12 pro using hotspot, manually. Once connected, I open network preferences. Click on auto join on the 1st page and then go to the advanced page and make sure its also checked for auto join. I save. But when i close the window. Re-open to confirm, its not saving the auto join on the 1st page. Its still checked on the second (advanced) page. Not a big deal, as i can connect manually but it used to auto join and in the last month it has stopped doing so.

Any suggestions and hopefully this isnt too confusing

Well, don't feel alone....

This seems to be an imperfect science to say the least.

It seems the dynamic is changing with each macOS and associated point update.

I would not beat your head against the wall trying to figure out some magic combination... wait for the next update and see if it changes for the better.
