Anyone else have this keyboard problem?

I have MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013. It is in excellent condition - apart from the keyboard which has been a pain since day one. I thought this was my fault as I typed too fast, so I slowed me and the Mac down. It misses out letters and words, and I have to make constant corrections.

Next problem, the black coating has come off several keys, leaving the backlight showing.

As if that was to enough, 3 keys have split in half. I have managed to type through tape! Or use my old faithful Mac 2006.

I should imagine a new keyboard would be expensive, and due to the age I am loath to go there, as Apple may stop updating this year soon.

THANKS.

LC

You can always connect an external keyboard as a work around...

Otherwise it sounds like you need a new keyboard:

Thank you for your reply.

Regrettably the cost of a new keyboard is far too high (also my local Apple Store could not locate one other than the magic keyboard, which I do not want as Bluetooth it's not always reliable in my area). My Mac is now quite old and I expect pretty soon it will lose support from Apple.

What I did is to buy the top section online, with all the keys in excellent condition, for £10. This sorted out the cosmetic factor, and my Mac looks as good as new. I did not feel capable of exchanging the entire keyboard unit though, but I have discovered the built-in dictation which is extremely good and easy to use. This makes emails a breeze!

Problem solved. Thanks again.
