Stop accidental downloading of iCloud folder

I accidentally clicked the iCloud icon next to a very large folder inside iCloud Drive. The folder is 70gb large and I only have 5gb left on my macbook. It started download these files, around 1500 files, from iCloud and now I can not stop it, and my space is disappearing.

There is around 200 folders inside the main folder so I have been trying to click "Remove Download", but often this does not appear on the folder until after it has downloaded. Which means this approach will literally take hours and hundreds of clicks to stop it.

How do I cancel the pending downloads, without waiting for them to download first?

See the article Download items from the web using Safari on Mac - Apple Support

  • Pause a download: Click the Stop button to the right of the filename in the downloads list. To resume, click the Resume button .

You can take Mac offline , take cursor on right top menu bar , click on wifi icon and click on turn wifi off .

Open finder > in iCloud section > iCloud Drive right click on the document and click on remove download or you can click on remove to bin , the syncing of folder was already stopped so the sub folders inside will also stop syncing see the article Delete files and folders on Mac - Apple Support
