How do I stop my MacBook air screen from dimming if idle for few minutes?

Screen is dim every time I switch on my Macbook Air on, but Auto-brightness is off I've seen several similar posts but not exactly the same as my issue. Every single time I switch my Macbook Air on, the screen is really dim, and I have to go into settings and adjust it back up to almost full brightness (I can't see well if the screen is dim). I have the 'Auto-brightness' setting OFF. It's always off, but still the brightness seems to 're-set' itself every time I switch on. It's nothing to do with low battery or whether the device is plugged in or not. Is there another setting I've missed somewhere? If not this is going to be really annoying - it's also pretty discriminatory towards those with sight impairments.

Screen dim Just got a new MaBook Air, every time I shut it down or just close the lid, it comes back dim. My old MacBook air was set to come back on bright. I have talked to support 3 times, everyone gives me a different answer. Nothing has worked. ANY SUGGESTIONS??? I am running Monterey 12.2.1

Intermittent screen dimming My M1 MacBook Air dims if it's bright outside or a bright light hits the screen. The dimming happens not when idle but just after opening the computer from sleep mode. It's almost as if it's doing the inverse of what it should do, getting brighter when the ambient light is bright. The quick solution is to brighten the screen using the keyboard. A few minutes or maybe a bit later, it will again dim, and I'll have to use the keyboard to brighten the screen. The display setting is on auto in the settings panel. What control should I adjust?

Apple menu > System Preferences > Battery > Battery (in sidebar) > Turn Display Off After (adjust the minutes below)
