I downloaded and installed Google Chrome Browser for Mac

Not sure what's going on but either my Mac Mini OS (Big Sur) or Safari installed a Chrome browser I downloaded, as a Volume. That can't be right, can it?

Mac mini, macOS 11.5

The Google dmg IS a volume. Open disk utility and you will see it there and described as a volume. Double click the dmg and it should have within it the Google application. Follow instructions and it should install to your applications folder.

Okay. That makes sense. .dmg file, (disk image). I have found other areas where it identifies it as an app or .app.

But please bear with me here.

Why do the properties of the file call the file a "Volume"?

Additionally in settings, I opted to have all drives, internal and external show up on the desktop. There is google chrome on my desktop, looking just like a hdd. shown right below my Mac HD (SSD).

also my Mac mini properties make chrome look like a removable drive.

We all know its an app but... confusing
