Alarm defaulting to radar

I want to set a song from Apple Music to play as my alarm.

I have done that, however whenever the alarm sounds, it defaults to the "Radar" alarm.

I have already seen previous posts like:

+ a few dozen more in other corners of the web.

First I have to say that the requirement to have the song downloaded on your device is very dumb and there is no indication when choosing a song that this is needed. Seriously, how do you expect an average person to know this? Telepathically?

With that out of the way:

I have downloaded the entire playlist where the song is to my iPhone (so the song is locally stored)

I have restarted my iPhone

I have deleted and redownloaded the playlist

I have force closed and reopened the clock app

I have deleted the alarm and made a new one

I have done each of these things individually and combined. What else must I do?

I am not going to purchase a tone as this one suggested: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252889112

Nor do I intend to make some weird copy via iTunes Media syncing or GarageBand. I just want to use a song from Apple Music which I already am paying for.

Any help or would be appreciated

I did try to see what would happen if I picked a different downloaded song and when adding it, it actually shows up as blank (see image bellow). And then when the alarm rings it again defaults to Radar.

Force closing Music and the Clock apps and restarting the phone didn't accomplish anything.

Currently on iOS 14.7.1

Actually had the same result on my wife's iPhone, so looks like it could be a bug in the alarm app itself, where it thinks it has added the song, but actually hasn't.

All though I do remember having this issue months ago as well, it could be back then I just hadn't downloaded the song.

Please check the following

  1. Is the song still available under the Playlist? Note: the Playlist is updated by Artists and content providers and many a time they withdraw a part of the release.
  2. Try to download the individual song instead.
  3. Is the song greyed out? Check out here --> If your songs are grayed out - Apple Support
  4. Tap or click the Download icon  to download it to your device.

The playlist is my own and the song is available without issues. It isn't grayed out or anything and I hear it play a preview when I add it to the alarm (also if I just open the Music app it also just works). Last confirmation done about 37 seconds ago.

I tried deleting the playlist songs and only downloading that particular song and again only heard the Radar when the alarm went off :/

Isn't this obvious? If your song is on the cloud, can you imagine what would happen if your device is not connected to the internet at the time when the Alarm needs to go off?

Thank goodness Apple thought of this in advance.

I forgot that there is no such thing as WiFi at home or in hotels nowadays.

There is no magical 4G or 5G internet on the streets to keep your phone constantly connected to the internet.

It's not like they could somehow check if your phone is or isn't connected to the internet or heavens forbid "predownload the song" specifically for the alarm. We are talking about an alarm app here. My kettle needed a firmware update a few weeks back and we all know that is a more complex piece of machinery
