Mac data usage history

Is there a way to track monthly data usage in Mac OS.

The Activity monitor shows the current network activity only. If I quit Activity monitor or Reboot Mac, again the status will be reset from the beginning. I have seen some third-party applications to track monthly wifi data usage. But If Mac has that in-built feature it would be great.

It is not only because of monthly data caps. It would be great if we have a tool/feature to track applications wise data usage to know how much amount of data has been used by each application on weekly/monthly basis. 😅

You are correct that the Activity Monitor can only show the current network activity.

This feature is built into the operating system. Unfortunately, there is no Apple tool to extract and view it. As far as I know, there is only one third-party application that can display it. Alas, I wrote that 3rd party app, EtreCheckPro, and the Apple Support Communities Use Agreement forbids me to link to my own program. Just so you know, the Analytics feature in EtreCheckPro is part of the Power User package, which you have to pay for.

I thought with a disclaimer you could? They change that recently or am I just behind?

Not anymore. Not even with a disclaimer. Technically I’m right at the edge even mentioning it. It doesn’t actually do monthly data anyway. The operating system only saves about a week’s worth of analytics data. But there is so much data available and EtreCheckPro is the only tool I know of that can display it.

The best way to track that would be with your service provider. They should have an online usage tracker. Your Mac can only track what it is using. If you have other devices, they won’t be included.
