A MacBook supports most of the common programming languages used today.
If you will develop mostly for Apple devices, Xcode is Apple's provided IDE.
Xcode supports C, C++, Objective-C, Objective-C++, Java, AppleScript, Python, Ruby, ResEdit (Rez), and Swift (along with some additional languages supported by third parties).
If you will need to develop for Windows though, you'll probably need a Windows device or a virtual machine to run Windows on your Mac.
