Live pictures have turned black

Since the updates, the Live pictures majority of them when you view the album (like Recents) has turned black. However, when you select the picture to view, the picture is there. Also when I select a live picture to send, even though I can clearly see the picture, it is sent black. I did not change any settings on my phone. I researched and some say to turn on the “Reduce Motion” and I have turned it on but still there are Live pictures that are still showing black and still black when sending/forwarding even when picture is there. See the sample screenshot. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max on 14.7.1 software.

Hi Maxinemnd,

We can see that you're having some issues with your Photo app displaying black thumbnails for a few of your photos. Let's check this out together.

Do you currently have any other Apple devices that would have the same photos? If so, have you checked to see if they're displaying this issue with the same photos?

If you sign into iCloud, do you still see black thumbnails?

Does the issue remain when Dark Mode is turned off? You can see how to disable Dark Mode here: Use Dark Mode on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

You mentioned that this occurs with live photos, if you edit and change the Key Photo, does the black thumbnail go away? You can learn how to to this from Take and edit Live Photos.

I don't upload my photos on iCloud, I don't use iCloud. I turned off Dark Mode, problem still persists. I "edited" one of the photos and the black thumbnail went away. But when I did the same on another photo, the black thumbnail persists.

This black thumbnails occurred during the recent updates. I noticed the black thumbnails started appearing June 16, 2021. It was very minimal 1 or 2 thumbnails each month. Now it is numerous. Pictures taken prior to June 16th were normal. I would assume any updates that occurred on or after June 16th are what caused this. Thanks.
