Health App Accuracy

Since I upgraded to the iPhone 12 I have lost a round 1 mile for very 6 miles I logged on my previous iPhone.

I walk/run the same trails so the distance doesn't vary. It seems I am losing 20% on my upgrade.

I live in Colorado. Does altitude or smoke from mountain fires affect the accuracy?

I haven't read single response from apple that makes any sense. We actually have mileage markers on our trails so it seems the Health app is inaccurate.
