MacBook Pro only displays on external Monitor

My MacBook Pro only displays via an external monitor. Sometimes I get color vertical lines, sometime I get a complete grey screen with a black line. Any idea what I could be facing?

The top bar is still visible and if I swipe up the applications, I can see the applications. How do I debug this? I have attached the relevant images. If I restart the mac, it works perfectly. Macbook Pro Display Goes Stripey After Login - still works on external monitor Hello all, When turning on my Macbook Pro, there are no issues with the display and I can login to my user account. However, as soon as I login, the display goes stripey - predominantly black with a few faded vertical stripes. I have plugged in an external monitor which works but still nothing on the actual monitor. Very confused as it is fine upon start-up as previously mentioned!

blank screen with working external monitor I have a new macbook pro and suddenly the screen on the laptop is blank, but my plugged in external monitor is working properly. I've tried resetting the SMC and forced off and on, but the screen is still blank.
