Iphoto on external drive

I have several iphoto libraries on an external hard drive (Seagate). Now whenever I plug the external drive in it crashes the computer. How do I retrieve the iphoto libraries in order to do a full disk repair on the ext. drive, which will empty it of content? I've tried dragging an iphoto library to pictures, but it didn't complete, and is grayed out. I'm running Catalina on an imac.

iPhoto Hi, I just upgraded to Catalina and I wanted to open the first time my iPhoto library with the new Photos app. I stored the iPhoto Labrary in an external SSD drive. The iPhoto Library file is event now shown on the drive. How it is possible and what can I do to recover and use my iPhoto Library?

can't open my photos on external drive I am trying to view/download photos from my external drive, but the iPhoto icon is grey with a crossed out circle on it. I moved it to my mac laptop desktop and it appeared to copy the contents to my desktop, but a yellow ! warning comes up saying "iPhoto isn't supported in this version of macOS" when I click "learn more" it tells me "32-bit app compatibility with macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 and later..." I just want to recover these photos! I have macOS Big Sur on my laptop. Do I need to pay for something like "recoverit" app in order to recover all of these pictures?

Try different cables, try bring it to a different computer.
