Software update is required to connect to your iOS device network error

Im trying to use my phone connected to Itunes on my Imac. There is a software update required for it, but it keeps failing due to a "network error". My internet is working as it should on both devices...

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.12

Reboot your router and computer then try again. Disable any VPN software. If the issue persists consider checking for malware with a free trial of Malwarebytes for Mac.
