I am unable to send text messages to *certain* people after upgrade to 24-inch iMac

iMac 24-inch M1 2021

Big Sur v 11.5.2

Sending messages to some people that I could before the upgrade to 24-inch doesn't work. Most yes, some no. Even replying to previous threads doesn't work. I note that these folks are generally "green" while the most successful are "blue." I can't find any setting that even comes close to addressing the problem.

Note on the attached screenshot that I was able to send previously, but now fails. The last message followed upgrading to the latest version 11.5.2.

Make sure you've enabled Text Message Forwarding to that Mac on your iPhone.

Green messages are SMS text (cell phone network). Blue messages are iMessage network to other Apple devices.

A Mac on its own cannot send SMS messages. It has to do that through your iPhone. The setting likely got unset when you upgraded.

I think this did the trick. It appears that a text may have gotten through (no error message) though the person hasn't gotten back with me to confirm. On the screenshot, the GStarMac (Mac) was NOT checked, but the second GStarMac (2) WAS. I believe that the (2) was the one I replaced that was renamed in the transition. No idea why there are two of those.

Anyway, Thanks!

Sorry. Follow up possibly related question. Sometimes my wife gets message on her phone, but not on her MacBook Pro. Her does not have the Text Message Forwarding option at Settings > Messages . Could it be somewhere else on this software version?

~ iPhone 11

~ Software version 14.7.1

I'm glad to start another thread if this is a different issue.
