Macmini late 2014 persistent issue

Hi guys, I've continuous App slowness or freezing with my Macmini late 2014 2,6Ghz/1Tb HDD. I'm using barely 10% of the HDD, I sent it to the local official service center that didn't find anything wrong.

The problems are persisting and are getting worst. Does someone know what should I do apart from buying a new one?

At the same time, my MBP, the same age, is just working beautifully.

Thanks.

You just summed up one of the main issue -- your 2014 MacMini has the mechanical 2.5" HDD - furthermore, 5400 rpm.

You can

  1. replace the internal HDD with SATA-3 2.5" SSD of your choice
  2. buy 2014 Mac Mini flex cable (with screw) and Apple's propriety PCI-e SSD (blade shape - either Apple OEM or OWC)
  3. USB 3 external SSD

#1 is the hardest, then #2 as #3 method is the easiest to achieve. You also can save the external SSD for future usage.

Once again, when using 3rd party hardware, difference quality can affect the experience - do some research and find a reputable vendor with good support. OWC seems to get most seal of approval by most users here.
