Iphone 11--Swipe up does not work

Out of nowhere tonight, the swipe up function of my phone stopped working. I couldn't unlock me phone and do anything with. I tried a bunch of stuff suggested by blogs/posts but none of it worked. As a last resort, I attempted to restore my Iphone. This has still not worked--the first prompt upon a restore is "Swipe up to open" and the swipe up function still doesn't work. I would assume at this point it is a hardware issue, but I'm not the most tech savvy person, so I don't know. Additionally, I am in a foreign country currently and do not speak the local language, so going to a local Apple store would be a huge challenge. Any thoughts/suggestions?
