How to recover something from icloud drive

I have many files on my desktop and I use creative cloud quite a lot and it took up a lot of space on my desktop so I stored them in iCloud. But now that this big project is done I have deleted all the stuff I didn't need anymore. But now I cannot recover a lot of my stuff and it says they're in iCloud and I can't get them out.
