when I power on my Toshiba fire tv with my Apple remote it goes to the smart TVs screen and not the input where my Apple TV is plugged into. It will power off but when I turn in my tv I have to switch inputs…annoying. How can this be remedied?

That depends on if CEC is turned ON on the TV and on the Apple TV box, and if the TV CEC instruction set includes switching to newly powered devices. Toshiba may name CEC differently in their documentation: CE-Link or Regza Link.
