How do I get the custom ring and text tones from my iPhone to chime on my watch?

On my phone I set (and have gotten used to) individual ring and text tones for important contacts.

Since getting this watch, now, not only does everyone have the same ring/text tone on the watch, the unique sounds don’t play on my phone, either!

I have to look at each message on my watch to see who it’s from, and never get to hear the individualized alerts I had set up at all.

Surely this piece of technology that cost hundreds of dollars can do better?! What am I missing?!

Hi jmdalton89,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having an issue with your custom ringtone. We'd like to help.

When you set a custom ringtone set on your iPhone, that should always play when the assigned contact calls in. This ringtone should play on your iPhone but will not play on your Apple Watch. You can leave Product Feedback for Apple so they know you're interested in that feature in the future.

For the current ringtone that isn't working, is that with one contact or more than one? Is it the same custom ringtone or a different one for each person? Is your iPhone updated to the newest iOS? If not, that may help: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch If you change the affected ringtone(s), does it then play correctly?

Let us know and we'll continue from there.

Have a nice day!
