No HDR on my MacbookPro and no 60hz on the External Monitor.

Hey there and Thanks in Advance,

i hope you Guys can help me.

Using my MacBook Pro (16", 2019) for a while now. Its my first Apple Device at all.

Never knew it was capable to Display HDR.

Saw it mentioned in a Video and tried it.

Wasn`t able to watch any HDR Content at all.

No Matter wich Source (Netflix, Youtube etc.)

The option HDR is also not shown in the Displaysettings Menu.

It tried with the internal Macbook Retina Display and an external Display (Dell P2721Q) connected via HDMI.

I also wasn't able to use 60hz Refreshrate on the external Display.

Used the same Adapter and cable on my W10 laptop. No Problem, HDR, 60hz within seconds.

Hope you can help to unleash the whole potential of my Macbook.

Using Big Sur 11.5.2

Okay i found the Solution.

The internal Retina Display is only aviable to shoiw Premium HDR Content in Full HD from Apple. ( Oh Lord )

To use the 60hz Refreshrate i need a Thunderbolt<>mini Displayport Adapter.

Hi,

This article outlines HDR on Macs:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210980

As you correctly stated, all MacBook Pros from 2018 onwards support HDR.

For the built-in display, there is no need to activate a HDR check-box, as compatible HDR content is viewed in HDR automatically. Your external display (Dell P2721Q) does not appear to support HDR according to the Dell website, so there is also no checkbox.

If you're streaming video using Netflix, you should use Safari for compatibility with HDR content.

What adapter are you using to connect the monitor?

Thanks for your Kind Reply.

As i stated in my Post, wether on Youtube or on Netflix i am able to use/watch HDR Content when only using the Retina Display.

Even when HDR i not possible on the external Display. 60hz is possible for sure.

Also, when the Dell Display is connected to my Win10 Book, 10bit HDR and 60hz are working fine, but even if not, the 60hz are more impaortant for me.

I saw the Article before, but non of the given advice was helpful to solve the problem.

No HDR on my MacbookPro and no 60hz on the External Monitor.
