Voice echoing while speaking on phone

I have an 11 Pro Max. Over just the last few months, when I speak to somebody over the phone, I can hear my voice echo. It doesn't matter whether or not I am on speaker phone, of whether or not I use my ear buds. It also doesn't seem to matter which type of device the other person has - ie, iphone or droid etc. This happens whether it is wireless or cellular. It is so bad that their answer cuts into the echo of my voice I hear. I've tried to also hold the phone away from my face a bit to see if it helps but it doesn't. I can try shutting off my noise cancellation setting but I've read from others that it makes it worse. So, if that doesn't help, what else can I do?

Hello ~ Do you have a case on the iPhone? Take it off and try if so and take a look here as well:

If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker
