Norton 360 VPN

How do I turn Norton’s VPN off on my iPad? I have shut all off in settings but then it starts up again automatically.

Thanks.

This issue is not unique to Norton 360 VPN - but can affect many VPN Apps in certain circumstances…

If you cannot connect to WiFi, temporarily disable (or if necessary remove) your VPN App/connection. This will likely resolve the issue, allowing your iPad to initially connect to the WiFi network - after which you can re-enable the VPN.

If you are using a third-party VPN App (such as Norton 360 VPN), there is strong possibility that you have configured Connect On Demand somewhere in the individual App settings. This configuration setting may be worded as something else by the App (e.g., Kill Switch, Persistent Connection etc.) but it will have the same effect. Either way, this setting can interfere with the DHCP handshake that assigns an IP Address to your iPad. Disabling this setting, if possible, should resolve the problem.

If your device is using DHCP to obtain an IP Address from the host network, until the four-way DHCP handshake concludes, your iPad will not be able to communicate with the network or wider internet connection. The VPN client (App) may be configured to block all network traffic until the VPN connection has been established - blocking DHCP - creating a vicious-circle.

By contrast, if using a fixed IP Address for your device, this problem does not occur.
