How do I remove the large battery icon from the lock screen in iOS 14?

Some time in the past couple weeks a large grey battery status icon appeared in the middle of my lock screen. Googling around for solutions tells me things like charge your phone, which I've done. Other suggestions are to edit the lock screen to remove the widget, but none of the instructions I've found work with iOS 14. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get rid of it?
