How to rearrange top sites in Safari 14.1.2

I can't seem to find any way to rearrange the Top Sites thumbnails (also referred to as Frequently Visited). Anyone know what the secret sauce is for this or is it just not a feature?

Michael Maitzen,

Thanks for taking the time to clarify. While you can remove and pin Top Sites, you cannot physically drag thumbnails to rearrange Top Sites. If you’d like, you can provide feedback regarding your experience with the Safari feature and suggestions on improving it by clicking the link below.

Michael Maitzen,

Thanks for reaching back out to us. We read your initial post and its entirety, and we would like to take a different approach to answer your question. The primary way to add a site to Safari’s Top Sites is from the Bookmarks -> Add Bookmark menu. In the sheet that appears, click the drop-down bookmarks menu, scroll to the top to pick Top Sites as your link’s destination, and click OK. Your new link will take its place in the top-left slot of your Top Sites grid.

If you decide you want to keep a site handy in Top Sites regardless of how often you visit it or want some sites to stay in specific slots in Top Sites, you can hit the Edit button in the lower left. Some new controls will appear over each Website snapshot in Top Sites: a close button and a push pin.

If you want a site to always remain available in Top Sites, click its corresponding push pin or click and drag its snapshot to a preferred slot. The pushpin will glow blue, signifying that the site will forever occupy that place until you decide otherwise, regardless of whether your browsing habits change down the road.

Thank you for responding to my question. So far I have received answer that told me how to add sites, make the Top Sites section visible in the Start Page, to try the menu in the lower right of the page which allow me to select what sections I want to see in the Start Page, how to delete a site from the Top Sites section. All of which I know about and have done many times. I have even seen on-line articles that say if I hover the pointer over a thumbnail I will get checkbox and delete controls in the upper left corner of the thumbnail but that does not appear for me no matter where I move the pointer. I remember that these controls used to be there in earlier versions of Safari but they are no where to be seen in this version.

At no point have I ever seen or heard how to REARRANGE THE THUMBNAILS in the Top Sites section of the Start Page. If you say to click and drag the thumbnail around that does not work.

Thanks.
