I am getting 45 Spam messages on my iPhone in 5 days. This started after reporting the text as told to. The issue, ever time I report the SPAM you have to go into the text, this tells spammer the phone is live and they send me more. Make it stop!

Contact your carrier. They will probably tell you to keep forwarding the messages to 7726 (SPAM) and to block the numbrers. But, they may also have some other option. My carrier has a spam filtering app that is free.

The fact that things go worse is unrelated to reporting the spam.
Reading the text does not notify the sender. Clicking on a link in the spam text might so don't do that. It's not required to report the text.
No, it doesn't. So long as you don't click on links or send read receipts, nobody will know you did anything.
Well, it doesn't. Reading a text causes no interaction -- similar to any text. But, reporting is fine it's also an exercise in futility. Just filter them out and ignore them.

Just a small clarification. Read receipts only work if both parties have iMessage.
Not sure what you're talking about. Nothing is going to stop them; at least, not for now. It's not worth changing your number as the activity will still continue.

Soon order to block spammers I am forced to pay $25 a year? I feel Apple should be able to stop this crap. They identify as Walmart, Amazon, DMV? How can this be OK. Reporting them or blocking the requires you to go into the message validating your phone number and they send more! I am getting tired and to change the number I have to Pay? Seems the scammers get money out of me any way I turn. This should be Illegal!
There is nothing we can do to stop spam messages. We all get them! The only thing I can think of that may help is to limit sharing your phone number unless it is necessary.
