Wi-Fi taking preference over ethernet why

I have the new iMac 24" and connected my Ethernet cable and set that at the top of the preference table.

But the iMac keeps defaulting to wi-fi. Does that mean that the ethernet is less powerful than the wi-fi and should be turned off?

Hello, if you go into system preferences > network > in wifi you can see your network then untick the "automatically join this network" box.

like this your wifi will not connect automatically but will still remember your password.
