iPad + HDMI + Van DVD player = : (

I purchased a bunch of movies and TV shows for our family iPad for our kids to watch on road trips.

It was great! (after I bought a ridiculously overpriced adaptor) I as able to use an HDMI cable and plug the iPad into the minivans DVD player. My kids could watch on a shard screen and their own headphones / we could listen to the radio.

TL;DR - this no longer works due to some sort of update (which I’m assuming has something to do with preventing copy-written material from being … stolen or something). Is there any remedy for this?

I’ve invested a lot of $$ into this ecosystem for this purpose and to have it suddenly ‘stop working’ is beyond frustrating.
