I'm trying to export jpgs from the timeline in FCPX from a 4k project using 'save current frame'. The frame appears totally blank (white). The same frame is blank if I change the project ratio. Can anyone help please?

You need to tell us more.
What are the project settings?
Do the frames look ok inside FCP?
Do they look ok if you export, for example, as png?
Do they export correctly as video?
You may try deleting preferences and see if that helps.
To delete preferences, hold down command and option while starting FCP X and click Delete Preferences. The application will start in a default state, and open an "Untitled" library. Reopen the library you were working on, set the preferences the way you like them, and try again.
It was my error, I had built the graphics with a missing layer, so even though it was fine for video it didn't work on the individual frames. Lesson learned! Thanks so much.
Thanks Luis, I deleted preferences and reopened the project but this hasn't solved it I'm afraid.
Project settings 4K 3840x2160 ProRes 422 (but I tried 1080pHD and no luck) and the frames look fine.
They don't export as png but do export correctly as video
