Trying to import from any SD card.
iMac running Catalina and most up to date FCPX does not see the files on the card.
The finder sees that there is data there but FCPX does not.
MacBook Pro running Mojave and most up to date FCPX does see the files and can import them.
Why is the iMac not seeing the video files on any SD card?
May not help but just to tick it off the list try deleting the preferences.
Hold down Option and Command as you launch FCPX and click "Delete Preferences" in the window that opens.
You will then have to navigate to the project you were working on.

Deleting the preferences is so quick and simple I always recommend giving it a try whenever FCP X starts behaving strangely in any way.
It won't work every time but what have you lost . . . about 30 seconds restarting the app!
This worked and I was able to import from the copied SD card.
But FCPX still was not able to see the files on the actual SD card until i followed the advice below and deleted preferences.
That was a good call but hasn't fixed the problem.
I went into system prefs and full disk access was indeed switched off.
I don't know how that happened.
I switched Full Disk Access back on for FCPX and then restarted the system .
Confirmed Full disk access is ticked in system prefs.
But FCPX is still not seeing any video files on any SD card.
Make sure FCP has Full Disk Access in Privacy System Preferences.
Thanks Ian - that worked. DCPX is now seeing that SD card.
Full Disk Access is off by default in current systems.
Make a folder on your computer. Copy the DCIM and PRIVATE folders off the card into it. See if you can access the folder on your drive from the Import window.
