Beamer via thunderbolt, not recognized:-(

Hello, my QUMI beamer is very often not recognized by my 2017 Macbook Air (running Catalina) when I plug in the HDMI->thunderbolt adapter cable, sometimes I need to try 20-50 times until it works. What can I do? Is there no software switch? Via "System Preferences"->Displays, there seems nothing I can do; also, no "Arrangement Tab" that some people are talking about. Please help, this is extremely frustrating. Thanks!

Dear TammyW,

Thanks a lot, but nothing of this was helpful yet. Vivitec says

> The projector has many input connectors. Each connector is labelled (HDMI 1, RGB 1 ....). Ensure the projector is switched to that input using the “Source” button on the projector.

This I can do.

> Also, the computer may require a toggle switch to turn on the output port. This is typically accomplished by holding down the “Fn” at the same time as a Function key. Each laptop manufacturer may use a different “function” key. Typically, it is F4 or F8. The symbol on the key is usually a laptop as well as a square.

This function key I cannot find, please help!

Today I tried plugging in and plugging out the thunderbolt cable for 5 minutes, and then I gave up:-(

There must be a way to tell my laptop that it should send the signal to the beamer! WLAN is not an option.

Thanks so much!

Hello georg___f,

We understand that you're having an issue with your QUMI beamer projector not always being detected when connecting it to your Mac. To help narrow this down, do other devices that connect via HDMI work as expected? If so, we recommend checking out vivitek's FAQ page under "I plug my computer in to the projector and I don’t get an image." here: vivitek - FAQ

More information on connecting projectors to your Mac can be found here, just in case: Connect a display, TV, or projector to Mac

Keep us posted.

Take care.
