Macbook Pro running Catalina says that software updates are managed externally

Hi, I have a Macbook Pro running Catalina OS, and when I tried updating to Big Sur, I got an error, and the Macbook is saying that Updates for this mac are managed externally. I tried all of the fixes from other forum posts, but none of the solutions work.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Is this specific computer Owned by a Company, University, School or Organization ??

If - Yes, the computer may have been enrolled in a Mobile Digital Management Program. If Yes, they manage what can be installed or not installed on this computer.

To verify - System Preferences >> Users & Groups and see of there is a Profile other than yours listed.

Check Apple menu -> System Preferences to see if there are profiles. If there are profiles, your company/school may indeed be managing updates externally. Sometimes they will allow updates through a Self Service application.

If there are no profiles, and you can't download any upgrades, check first that you are running 10.5.7 in Apple menu -> About This Mac.

If you aren't running 10.5.7, first run https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2052?locale=en_US

then: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2079?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Then follow the directions here for upgrading to 11.0 Big Sur.

Well good work and figuring this out :-))

But, be aware, it the Serial Number of this machine is still Registered with an MDM Service - one may have issue shortly. Until the computer is properly Un-Enrolled for such as Service - they could reinstalled their Services onto the computer again.

Just a Cautionary Head Ups intended.
