I have limited data so am wondering how much will be used to set up my phone for the first time please?
Had a nasty shock when upgrading OS on iMac which I'm sure said MB required but actually used GBs!!!

Setting it up, should use pretty much no data. You will be required to connect to a Wi-Fi network if you plan on restoring from a backup, and you will not be able to use cellular data for it.
If your Wi-Fi is capped, it would be better to find a free Wi-fi network with no data caps to restore the backup.
There is no chance the macOS update said Megabytes unless it was a small security patch. All other updates will be in the 3 to 4 Gigabyte size gap.

I've had this new iPhone for nearly 2 years and haven't been able to face doing it. From the first 'waiting for wi-fi' message it's been too hard - obviously I'm not tech wise. I'm hoping I can hot spot wi-fi from my old android phone. I use pre-paid with a 10GB data inclusion per month. I have no idea how to get free wi-fi. I didn't know I wouldn't be able to do anything at all to set up my new phone without wi-fi - I can't get past the 'waiting for wi-fi' page...
Not sure what you mean by "restoring from a backup"? It's a brand new unused iPhone. And what is 'cellular' data?
Whatever I did with the iMac update (to OS Big Sur) it used 30GB data! Fortunately at the time I had 50GB but it was a shock.
