I’ve connected my cell phone to my Mac laptop to update as described in this article. It’s been several hours but the message continues to say “Your Mac is downloading a software update for this iPhone and will install it when the download is complete.” should this be taking so long without anything else happening except the Update and Restore buttons being grayed out?

The time it takes to download will depend on your internet connection's bandwidth / speed.
Its not a pre-determined amount of time.
It's around 3GB in size, so may take a while on slower connections.

I’m on high speed (1000 mbps) Internet so not sure that’s the issue. Thanks for your input, though.
