Table of contents does not recognise set paragraph heading....

I have set headings for all titles throughout the document yet Table of Contents does not acknowledge this...

I place the cursor at the beginning of the document and select 'Insert': 'Table of Contents'. Error message then states my headings do not match the Table of Contents style!

Is there another way to edit paragraph/heading styles?

Hi there:

Thank you for taking the trouble to respond.

I was attempting to view and edit the 'Table of Contents' side bar through 'Insert'…then, I applied a little Apple-style thinking and looked under 'View' to find the Table of contents option to allow me set and edit parameters for my set Table of Contents style ( (already set up in the document).

When I read the Apple help page, I don't recall a reference to selecting the 'View' option for initial access, however, because I didn’t see it, doesn’t mean to say it isn’t there!

So…problem solved!

Thank you again for your response

kind regards

Hello SilverLining1,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! It looks like you need some help with using Pages for Mac, and we'd like to do what we can to assist.

Looking at the Pages for Mac User Guide, there are instructions for adding to the table of contents, which may help with exact steps. Check it out here:

Take care!
