Weird black heart emoji instead of the normal red heart emoji

Certain emojis sent to me in text messages are not showing up properly on MacBook Ppro. For instance, a red heart ❤️ is showing up as a strange black heart ❤. Only my MacBook Pro shows as a black heart. All other devices show properly as a red heart. This only happens when receiving texts, not sending them, and it happens when texts are sent from either Android or Apple through iMessage. Thanks in advance, for any reasonable explanation. I am using MacOS Big Sur, Version 11.5.2.

Thanks for that info!

Try these steps next to help further diagnose the issue:

  1. Open the Messages app on your Mac.
  2. At the top of the screen, select Edit -> Emoji & Symbols.
  3. A new window should pop up. Select the Emoji category, then select the Symbols sub-category.
  4. A list of hearts should appear at the top. Is the red heart there?

This is what I am seeing on my end:

Hi ChazDT-PW100,

The Messages app on your Mac can send and receive texts both through iMessage (if you're only texting people with Apple products, blue bubbles) and typical SMS/MMS via your iPhone (if you're texting one or more Android users, green bubbles). It's important to note that it is not possible to communicate with an Android user via iMessage.

Just to confirm, does the issue still occur if you start an iMessage conversation (blue bubbles) with someone and they explicitly send you the red heart emoji?
