iTunes available with Big Sur

When I upgraded to Big Sur on my Macbook Air, I lost the ability to access my iTunes library that was stored on my computer. I had the library backed up on an external drive, but when I open Music to get to the backup file, I get a message that says no can do. How do I retrieve my library that took several years and different generations of IOS and Macs to build?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.4
