Since the upgrade of the system : 11.5.2 The touch ID doesn't work anymore and in the preference panel, nothing can be chanced or modified ?

Try resetting the NVRAM and SMC on Intel & Intel T2 equipped Macs

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

If it's a new iMac 24" M1 shutdown, unplug it from power. Hold the power switch for about 10 seconds. Plug it back in and power up normally.

If you are using the iMac 24" M1 Apple bluetooth keyboard with Touch ID sensor you may need to reset the Bluetooth device. Hold Shift+Option key on the keyboard, click the Control Center icon top-right on the Menu Bar and then click on Bluetooth.

You should then see "Reset the Bluetooth module" and "Factory reset all connected Apple devices". You might need to perform both of those options.

Also, don't forget to fully charge the bluetooth keyboard / etc.

Other items that can interfere with the Touch ID are enterprise MDM management or a system kernel extension. I had a problem with a left over Broadcom Symantec Endpoint Protection system extension that I had to remove when my Touch ID failed to work. The SEP software was already removed but the system extension remained and the Touch ID refused to work. I can only assume other antivirus / anti malware or other security endpoint like tools could also interfere. You really don't need these tools at all. Some employers force them upon their employees. We ditched SEP because it wasn't doing much except slowing down our fleet of Macs. We use other more modern tooling.

I think I resolved the problem with this instructions :

"If you are using the iMac 24" M1 Apple bluetooth keyboard with Touch ID sensor you may need to reset the Bluetooth device. Hold Shift+Option key on the keyboard, click the Control Center icon top-right on the Menu Bar and then click on Bluetooth.

You should then see "Reset the Bluetooth module" and "Factory reset all connected Apple devices". You might need to perform both of those options." Anyway after several reboots and the factory reset of all connected Apple devices (specially the keyboard, that you should reconnect and then the ID touch is working again.

Thanks James Brickley
