Sound effects not showing in iMovie 10.1.14 and Final Cut Pro 10.4.4.

Since a couple of days I do not see the sound effects anymore inside iMovie of Final Cut while there are in the Finder. See below. Download additional content in FC does not work. Any idea? I'm running IOS 10.14.6 on a Mac Pro 5.1.

Mac Pro, macOS 10.14

You might go to Applications > Control-click on iMovie icon > Show Package Contents > Resources > iMovie Sound Effects. Are the iMovie Sound Effects there?

Sometimes shutting down and restarting the computer resolves issues.

If that doesn't work, try deleting preferences. To do that open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects.  Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.

If still no luck, try these two procedures, that are very easy to do: :

Try resetting the System Management Controller (but no longer available for the new

M1 computers):

Try resetting the NVRAM or PRAM, although this issue would be fairly rare:

All else failing, try a redownload of iMovie. To update/redownload iMovie 10, drag your iMovie 10 app from the Applications

folder into the trash, but do not empty the trash. Sign in to the app store and open your purchases folder by clicking on your name at the bottom of the app store side bar.   You will see your purchases displayed, including iMovie 10. Redownload/update

iMovie from there. If not successful, drag your present iMovie app out of the trash and return it to the Applications folder.

Hmmm. This might have something to do with your Region. Go to System Preferences > Language and Region and change the region to something else, like United States or UK and see if that solves it. You can always change it back.

A workaround would be to copy (not move) the iLife Sound Effects folder to your desktop and from there you can open the folder and Option-drag (copy) any sound effect into an iMovie project, just as if you were accessing it from the side bar.

Another workaround, woud be to import the copied iLife Sound effects folder on your desktop into a newly created iMovie Event. Then you can access the effects for any project. Not entirely satisfactory because an index list won't appear, but just the wave form clips themselves without name. You would need to select View/Skimmer Information so that the name of the clip would appear when you move your cursor over it.

You might not need the workarounds, however. I'm sure that there is some way to get the sound effects back into your iMovie audio display. You might try contacting Apple Support and talking to the techs there. They have the capability of

remotely accessing your computer that we cannot do here.  To contact apple support click on the Get Support item in the upper right hand corner of this forum’s screen.  Navigate to a place where you can enter your phone number.
