It is whether Canon provides scanner drivers for the CanoScan 9000F so it can be supported on Big Sur. This is an old scanner and Canon last provided macOS software/drivers for it in 2017 for macOS High Sierra. They show no driver support for any release of macOS since then.
If Apple's Image Capture cannot recognize or scan from this device, then you, at your option, can trial the current, paid VueScan Professional software which supports the CanoScan 9000F without any Canon or Apple software necessary.
I have owned VueScan Professional since 2010 for what was then an unsupported Canon scanner. The current VueScan still drives this scanner on macOS 11.5.2. I have paid no update fees to VueScan in eleven years, and receive no benefit from them for mentioning an excellent product here.
