My iMac is from 2009, so I can't upload Big Sur. What is the one before the newest?

I would like to get the IOS after High Sierra. Can I safely do that?

Catalina is the OS before Big Sur but your 2009 computer is not compatible with that.

Mojave is the OS prior to Catalina but your 2009 computer is not compatible with that.

High Sierra is the OS before Mojave. Your late 2009 iMac is compatible with High Sierra.
