ACTIVATION LOCK

IPAD GOT LOCKED WITH ACTIVATION LOCK, IT ASKS FOR APPLE ID AND PASSWORD WHEN ACTIVATED FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME, THE APPLE ID IT SHOWS WITH FIRST LETTER IS ABSOLUTELY UNKNOWN TO ME, IPAD IS MINE AND BELONGS TO ME, USING IT SINCE 2013, AND NOW GOT STUCK HERE AS MY KID USED PASSWORD MANY TIMES. WHATS THE BEST SOLUTION ?

Here are the Apple support pages that outline the Activation Lock - and the only mechanisms by which it can be turned off:

Turn off Activation Lock – Apple Support


As you will discover, unless you are the owner of the AppleID that was last used to activate the device, you’ll not be able to defeat or bypass the Activation Lock. With documentary evidence that you are the original owner (such as sales receipt showing the serial number), Apple may be prepared to assist - otherwise they and nobody here will be able to help you. If you are the original owner of the device, from new, recovery should not be too difficult.


If you have the necessary documentation, Apple have recently introduced a new portal though which you may be able to request release of an Activation Lock:

How to remove Activation Lock - Apple Support & start an Activation Lock support request.


However, recovery of the AppleID credentials should be possible…


If you have forgotten your AppleID or associated password, these can be recovered here:

https://iforgot.apple.com/


To recover your credentials, you’ll need access to any one of the following:

  • Your primary email address mailbox that corresponds with your AppleID
  • Any of the secondary/recovery email addresses that should be configured for your AppleID account
  • Any of the trusted telephone numbers (fixed line or Cellular/Mobile) that are associated with your AppleID


Unless you AppleID account has not been fully/correctly configured, or has been seriously neglected, recovery of the AppleID and password should not be difficult.

Please don't post in all caps - it looks like shouting and is considered impolite - and also it's less easy to read.


Did you buy the device second-hand (used)? If a used iOS device has been 'Activation locked' then only the previous owner can unlock it, either by providing you with the account ID and password, or by carrying out the steps detailed in How to remove Activation Lock - Apple Support (as he should have done before selling it).

 

If you are unable to contact him to do this then I'm afraid you will not be able to use the device - there is no other way of unlocking it at all. Apple cannot unlock it for you, nor find the previous owner for you, and neither can the websites that offer to unlock it for a fee: these are scams.


You should if possible return it to wherever you bought it and ask for a refund as in this event the device is completely useless.

If on the other hand you bought it new, and the ID it's asking for is yours but you've forgotten it, go to https://iforgot.apple.com to retrieve the ID and reset the password. See also If you forgot your Apple ID - Apple Support


Failing that, as long as you can produce legitimate proof that you are the owner (which must include the serial, IMEI or MEID number) you can request unlocking as detailed here: Activation Lock - Support. Note that the process will completely erase the device.
