System Resources Taken by EFI Process

Hi,

Since my upgrade to Big Sur I'm having very poor performance related to EFI Process

The EFI process is replicated x3 to even x7 and it drains the CPU power and the fans starts crying

We have EFI Fiery for print management but i'm not sure if it's the one showing under Activitry monitor process. Been i while a didn't use it and i confirm the app is not running in the background.

So what is this EFI related too? Mother board chip or some other built-in apple material?

It's annoying, the "EFI" process keeps coming back Every 10 minutes and i have to check Activity monitor and "force quit" the EFI process to prevent the CPU power drain

How to prevent a process like EFI from loading and drain my CPU Power?

I think it is this app that is using 185% of your process cycles:

counted.lic: -lmgrd_port 6978 -srv RPEVo8k82cuxaDj833JDTWLJByxY0vTrc5cMeqr4tlKjcihdiYPI4Z9ILQfeEls --lmgrd_start 61402121 -vdrestart 0 (3) 185.08 % (? - EFI -T fizzbell.local 11.14 5 -c :/Applications/EFI/EFILM)

The Brave Browser was not helping you either at the time of testing. A browser should not be that hungry,

Before doing anything else, however, completely and with extreme prejudice uninstall Symantec. The last version that did not cause Macs trouble was released about 1999. It can be triggering it own set of problme sof masking othrs.

Please navigate to www.Etrecheck.com and download the free version of EtreCheck. Once you have you downloaded the app and installed it, please run the report and save it. This report will help us get a good idea what has been installed on your system and help us be able to diagnose what may be wrong.

When you have your report, you can attach it when you reply to this message and we can then review it and help you Determine what is needed to get your system running well again.

For instructions on how to download your EtreCheck report and attach it to your reply to this message please click https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-250000211

Well I hate to say it but your computer is kind of a mess due to what has been installed on it. I will start with your antivirus app.

The best antivirus, cleaning app, and overall maintenance app for Mac OS is Mac OS itself. All you need to do with Mac OS to keep it secure and running well is to keep it up-to-date and do periodic (about 1x per week) restarts. Other than that, leave it alone. Adding third party antivirus, cleaning, security and other types of maintenance apps to Mac OS adds no additional level of security. The only thing these apps do is have the opposite affect users want. They make Mac OS slow, unstable, generate odd behavior (much like you are experiencing) and make Mac OS appear buggy.

Please locate the developers uninstall instructions for Symantec/Norton and follow to the letter. Then restart in Safe Mode per the directions in Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac and then restart normally. Then run a fresh EtreCheck report and scan for any left over pieces of anything that has the words Symantec or Norton in them. If you find any then download FindAnyFile and use it to search for anything with those words in them and move them to the Trash and then please empty the Trash.

Next, you seem to use Google Chrome however the computer only has 16GB of RAM installed. Chrome is a massive RAM hog and I would recommend uninstalling and using Safari. If you want to continue using Chrome, I strongly suggest doubling the amount of RAM installed.

Finally, I see JAVA is installed which can be dangerous. If you use any mission critical apps that use JAVA, the only advice I offer is that you get and update Java directly from the developers, Oracle. If you no longer use any apps that use Java, uninsstall per the developers instructions.

One last thing, I see you use CCC to backup the computer, this is excellent. You also may want to consider a second backup plan, why.... simple, backups fail too and having a redundant backup plan is wise. I would get another EHD and begin using Time Machine . Many experienced users (including myself) do just that. Personally I use SuperDuper! (a CCC competitor) and Time Machine. The reason I do is because I have had a backup fail just when I needed it.
