Hello, I'm new in the MAC world and I have a question for you. I use Google Chrome for my job (foreign language teacher) because our platform is best in Chrome. When I have a class in one tab, and I'm trying to do something else in other tabs (like google translate or youtube when class is boring) my students can hear sounds from other tabs. Why is that happening and how can I solve it? Thanks in advance!

I believe you are sharing the sound of your computer with the class. Nope, I don't think there is any way to just let yourself hear the sound but not also share through the share screen. The best method is to mute those tabs, or you could just not share the sound.

I don't think you can send the audio of two tabs of the same browser to different destinations.
What is the platform used to communicate with students? Maybe it has different options for audio.
I use Zoom and it can use different audio input and output from the system settings.
I think that the way to make this work would be to search for these videos using a different browser or application, in a way that the output is redirected to, for example, your headphones and not into the input of the online platform.
However, I don't know of any browser that allows for selecting a specific audio output. The ones I know all use the system setting.
An alternative if you have that choice, would be to use a different device like an iphone or ipad, or even an android phone, with headphones.
If you stop sharing sound in your online platform, the students won't hear anything until you start sharing sound again.
I was under the impression that your students were listening to something else that you are playing in another thread.
If that is not the case, then of course you stop sharing the sound ("mute" is the term in Zoom, I don't think you mentioned what platform you are using).
Do please tell us what your online platform is; maybe some people here use it, or can test.
Now I noticed that others can hear my iMessage notifications, so the problem isn't with Google Chrome. I was using Windows 10 on my laptop (HP Pavilion) before I bought iMac, and I never had a problem. I don't have an idea what's going on.
That is not a question here but if you're asking - no I don't. I have to find some interesting videos to play in my class and I need some time to find them on YouTube. The children don't need to hear what I'm looking for and that's the reason why I mentioned this. ;-)
Wait… you are the teacher and your classes are boring? And you just leave your students to work on their own and go watch something on youtube?
Is it possible not to share the sound? To uncheck something or any other way? I need to hear what I'm playing because I need to know what to download and play to my students.
I don't which platform is because I don't have the right to check it. It's the private platform of one school in China. I know that the servers we're using are talk-cloud servers. That's all I know.
