Issues on Installing MacOS Catalina in an Macbook Air (Mid 2012)

Hi, I have tried 3 times and I get the same error message on running the software update install.

It downloads the 8.09 GB install files and then just states (null) and asks to upgrade now. Which when clicked, starts the process again.

Any ideas? I can’t turn my mac into safe mode for I am using a macbook air mid 2012 where Apple Silicon is not available. Could someone help me with this? Thanks!

Would attempt to Manually Download using only Safari as others may not work

Security Update 2021-005 (Catalina) and once downloaded Stop there.

Perform Time Machine Backup  is very useful and can be used to Revert to Previous Working macOS

Then once done - restart in Safe mode from previous instruction and Run the Installer on the download folder on the Dock

Please excuse the mistyping of words - the Auto Correct is playing up badly - my bad :-((

Restart in Safe Mode - shutdown computer and attach to charger. Restart and Immediately hold the SHIFT key and keep holding until the Apple Logo is presented. Then release the key.

This will perform a Repair Disk, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. So, it will load slowly - Normal.

Then run the installer.

Notation - If one has tries several time to download Catalina unsuccessfully - suggest chicken in Applications Folder for a Corrupt or incomplete Application called Install Catalina - then Drag and Drop to Trash and Empty Trash. Re-download a New Copy of the installer and follow previous instructs for Safe Booting.
