Apple did it again. Updated to 11.6 now the DVD drive will not play DVD's. Issue on all my Mac M1 units.

If "DVD Player" open automatically when you insert a DVD, it still doesn't works. Please choose the window, type ⌘+Q, and re-open "DVD Player" from "Dock".
I can't check replies from now on. Sorry.
Apple store is wrong. The M1 has noting to do with the Apple Super Drive mechanically not working. It works fine on my two M1 units.
Foxtrot - Sierra solutions WORKS!
old toad. Tried your suggestion of opening preferences on my Mac Air at the store. The Dvd window shows but the dvd still won’t play. Not sure what to do, suggestions?
I have both and no issue
That's what I said above.
11.6.1 is what I upgraded to. Sorry, I should have been clearer.
Is there likely to be any more updates to Big Sur now that Monterey has been released?
I am also careful about updates. The only issue for some is that the screen saver when using your own Photos does not always work but all others work fine, otherwise I have found no issues.
Briefly scanning all these replies. I have to say I'm somewhat happy I have the same problem. I got my wife an M1 MBA to watch videos on. She does not used computers at all so I removed all extraneous apps from the dock that she would never use including Safari, Contacts, Mail etc. This little MBA is about as clean as you get. Worked great when it arrived about a month or so ago with 11.5 on it. Today I upgraded it to 11.6 and no more videos, baby....Nothing, zip, and, nova. She smiled sweetly and said, I have a nice book to read. Yeah, baby VLC, getting installed right now. Apple, you are your own worst enemy but at least you're not as horrible as Facebook.
APPLE INSTALLED 'UPGRADE" ON MY Big Sur 116. AND NOW IT WONT PLAY MY DVDS THAT WERE WORKING PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT BEFORE. I WAS TO UNDO THE UPGRADE PLEASE. I am not the only person with this problem.........
At the Apple store, they told me it is the difference between Big Sur 11.4 (DVDPlayer worked no problem) then I upgraded to Big Sur 11.6(DVD player no longer works). is this the case with you as well? And does anyone have a work around? VLC did not play my DVD
The problem is not fixed with Monterey. However, if you have the System/CDs & DVDs preference pane set to this:
All you'll have to do is go to the File Menu, select Open DVD Media and click on open in the window that comes up and you'll be running the video disc in DVD Player, i.e. one menu selection and one click.
I let Apple MacBook Pro install a new update and now my DVD player won't work. The exact one that worked PERFECRLY before. how do I reverse the install? Others are having same problem.
You would have to revert to 11.5.2 but that is a lot of work. I suggest you just use the free app VLC and wait for Monterey which may fix the issue.
I was told at the Apple Store that the Super drive works on the Mini Mac Air, but not the other Mac Airs. Do you
have the Mini version?
