Magic keyboard not charging

I just received my magic keyboard for my iPad Pro two days ago and my keyboard is not charging my iPad with the cable it came with. I can charge it regularly through and outlet but it will not charge directly from the keyboard. Is this a defective keyboard? Should I return my keyboard?

Wrong info! Magic keyboard for iPad Pro DOESN'T need to be charged.

The USB-C port on Magic Keyboard provides power, but it doesn't transmit data. This means you can't use this port with an input device such as a USB-C mouse. Never connect one end of a USB-C cable to the USB-C port on your iPad and the other end to the USB-C port on your Magic Keyboard.
